Wilpattu National Park situated bordering the North Western and North Central Provinces is Sri Lanka's oldest and largest Wildlife Park in Sri Lanka. It is 177 km (via Puttlam) from the Bandaranaike International Airport. It is situated on 131,693 hectares of land, with its most beautiful feature being the many natural lakes (Villus) that serve as watering holes for the animal living here. The Park displays a beautiful spectacle of wildlife which includes 31 species of mammals, the more popular of them being Leopard (a favorite amongst visitors), Sloth Bear, Elephant, Spotted and Barking Deer, Sambur, Wild Boar and even Crocks. There are also hundreds of species of birds both endemic and migratory, butterflies, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
