Sri Lanka is bursting with natural endemism, so much wildlife for a country this small is unbelievable. The country boasts of being one of the top five bio diversity hotspots in the world with 91 species of mammals, which includes Elephants, Sloth Bear, Blue Whale, Leopard and the rare Red Slender Loris, 433 species of birds, 190 species of reptiles, 242 species of butterflies and 106 species of amphibians; a good number of them endemic to Sri Lanka. With close to 60 wildlife parks and reserves situated in all parts of the country, there is every opportunity for a close encounter with the intriguing wildlife of Sri Lanka. Each wildlife park is unique and exclusive; Yala boasts of having the highest leopard density in the world, Udawalawe and Wasgamuwa for large herds of Elephants, Wilpattu for its natural lakes and Minneriya for the famed 'Elephant Gathering' are just a few.
